Taranaki Kōhanga Kiwi at Rotokare (TKKR) is an exciting kiwi project partnership between Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust and Taranaki Kiwi Trust (TKT). The Rotokare Loop is back again on the Taranaki MTB event list. Challenge yourself on the 17km or 30km loops. Registration from 7:30am, Briefing 9:15am, Ride starts - Loop30 first wave at 9:30am, Loop17 First wave at 9:35am. Loop17 Starts at the Rawhitiroa Pools and heads through dairyland on the Eltham Swamp.

Lake Rotokare is a predator free scenic reserve just north of Eltham in Taranaki New Zealand. Our family spent a night exploring this cool spot. Somehow it took us over 3 years to finally head over to Lake Rotokare. This area had always been on… Instead, if you feel like joining some of the Boot It members, we'll be heading to Lake Rotokare Track!

Nothing too bad, we still managed with our runners, but you have to watch your step. My only criticism would be that the crossing of the stream can be a bit challenging for the elderly/ little children if the water level is a bit higher since there is no bridge. It is quite a trek to get to Lake Rotokare behind Eltham but it is certainly worth it.

As the kaitiaki of the beautiful Lake Rotokare and its environs, our primary focus is to achieve the highest level of restoration, protection, and enhancement of Rotokare's indigenous ecosystem. There are many seats along the lake walkway to stop and enjoy the abundant bird life and native bush. The walkway makes its way through some breathtaking lowland forest before heading deep into Rotokare's swamp forest.
